What to do if I miss a week of mowing?

Maintaining a lush and healthy lawn requires regular maintenance, including mowing. However, life can get busy, and it’s easy to fall behind on lawn care tasks. If you’ve missed mowing your lawn for a week or two, don’t panic. In this blog, we’ll explore what you can do to get your lawn back on track.

1. Raise Your Mower Deck

If your grass has grown taller than usual, it’s important to raise your mower deck before mowing. This will prevent you from cutting off too much of the blade at once, which can stress the plant and leave your lawn vulnerable to disease and pests. Gradually lower the deck over a few mowing sessions until you reach your desired height.

2. Mow in Stages

If your lawn is extremely overgrown, it’s best to mow in stages rather than trying to cut it all at once. Start by mowing in one direction, then mow again perpendicular to your first pass. This will help prevent clumping and ensure a more even cut.

3. Leave the Clippings

When you’re dealing with an overgrown lawn, it’s tempting to bag the clippings and remove them. However, leaving the clippings on your lawn can actually help promote healthy growth. Clippings decompose quickly, adding organic matter to the soil and returning valuable nutrients to your lawn.

4. Water and Fertilize

After you’ve mowed your overgrown lawn, be sure to water it deeply to help the grass recover from the stress of being cut. You may also want to consider fertilizing to help your lawn recover and promote healthy growth.
