Natural Treatments Guard Against Pests & Insects, and Are For Your Family & Pets

Deer, mice, insects and other wild life can be harmful to your outdoor home if they destroy your plants or carry diseases. At Natural Tree & Lawn Care, we provide a host of effective treatments and appropriate services that discourage insects and disease carrying pests from invading your outdoor home. Further, our pest controls are target specific and will not negatively impact beneficial insects, birds or other wildlife. Whenever possible we make spot treatments to pests only when they are a problem.

  • Ticks & Mosquitoes:

Ticks and mosquitoes have become a rising concern due to insect-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), and West Nile Virus. Our certified arborists recommend controlling deer and dog ticks by treating transition zones (ex. the area between woodlands and lawns as well as trails and stone walls) with a synthetic form of a botanical insecticide for extended control. Applications should be made during seasons when ticks are most abundant and looking for new hosts.

  • A botanical insecticide can also be used to control mosquitos. However, this can be more difficult due to wind, weather and breeding habits of local mosquito populations. Spraying your outdoor home prior to an outdoor event will control mosquitoes for several days. However, for longer term control, applications should be made on a weekly or biweekly basis in conjunction with good harborage and breeding site control.

  • Deer Repellent:

Deer feed on a wide range of vegetation from small herbaceous plants to trees and shrubs. When food becomes scarce during winter, deer pressure on residential landscapes becomes very high. There are several methods to reducing deer activity in your outdoor home. Two methods we recommend include: 1) deer fencing, which forms a physical barrier to the susceptible plants, and 2) deer repellents, which can deter deer by either causing the plants to taste or smell unappealing, or scare deer by making them think predators are around.

  • Deer repellants can be directly applied to plants, or used as an area treatment to create a chemical barrier. Studies from the USDA Forest Service and the University of Massachusetts have shown that the proper use of certain deer repellents can have a significant effect on deer activity. At Natural tree & lawn Care, we use a natural product that repels deer by smell, without being displeasing to our customers, and by taste for deer that manage to take a bite.

  • Posion Ivy:

Poison Ivy has three green leaves that contain a menacing oil that is just as potent when its leaves turn red in the fall. Poison Ivy is typically spread by birds that eat its berries and deposit its seeds everywhere they land including trees, shrubs, flowers, bird baths, etc. Once in the soil, Poison Ivy’s vine grows fast, creeping along the ground and crawling up bushes, trees and any other vertical surface in your outdoor home.

  • Controlling Poison Ivy can be challenging since the oil in its leaves and vines remains potent long after the plant has died. Further, herbicides used to kill Poison Ivy can kill surrounding plants and vegetation if not carefully applied. Natural Tree & Lawn Care professionally applies an eco-friendly herbicide to rid your outdoor home of Poison Ivy without damaging your desirable plants. Consider 2-3 treatments to keep Poison Ivy from coming back and reclaiming ornamental and high traffic areas in your outdoor home.
